OBEDIENCE TRAINING

I believe that dogs deserve to be dogs. Obedience training is a way to create more freedom for your animal and allow it to have a more enriching life. A dog that is socialized, confident, and steady in all situations is a dog that gets to be free. Going to the dog park, hiking trails, camping with the family, visiting dog-friendly stores, and being off-leash and recalling are all ways a well-trained dog can have a better life.

For me, trained dogs are also safe dogs. It is important to have an animal you can safely take to the veterinarian or groomers without complications, recall at a moment’s notice in case of sudden danger, and trust your dog in group settings.

About

My main program is a board and train program where the dogs live with me. This is typically a SIX-WEEK training program where we meet weekly for training sessions. These can vary from in your home, stores, or local parks. every time we meet, my goal is to train you. your dog will be worked with every day and have monitored group play times. meetings involve showing you the latest progress and showing you how to incorporate these changes into your life. i never want to fully train a dog and not the owners. i encourage all members of the family and extended family that will be working with the dog to come to these weekly appointments to ensure everyone is learning these new behaviors.

my training process starts with a week of socialization and working on stressful behaviors. this week is spent building a relationship with the dog to ensure the training process is smooth. Over the next few weeks, i slowly introduce a training method of pressure vs. rewards. I adapt my training style constantly, depending on the DOG’S needs, and ensure i am working slowly and calmly so that i know the dog grasps the training before moving to the next step.

at the end of training, my goal is to have a dog that is trustworthy off-leash and is easily handled by all members of the family. my other goal is to have owners WHO also feel confident in these changes and the ability to maintain them for their day-to-day lives.

 FAQs

  • I own a small farm located outside of Parma, ID. The dogs will stay with me at my house and will always be kept in a fenced area. Additionally, I have a heated and cooled shop that includes an attached play area for group play sessions.

  • Yes, I transition a dog from a slip leash to an electronic collar very slowly. I will never use a collar until a dog is fully ready to make that leap. Some dogs are quite sensitive and can be trained effectively with just the vibration or beep function, while others may require a more noticeable reminder to maintain consistency.

  • I do offer in-home training to some clients. Training requires a lot of consistency and I never want to charge someone money knowing they will not get the results they desire. For this reason I encourage everyone to do a board and train program.

  • I usually begin training dogs at a minimum age of 6 months. However, there's no maximum age limit for training. I can work with puppies on short programs that focus on socialization or potty training, but a dog's mind typically isn’t developed enough for advanced training until they reach around 6 months.
